Osmium for jewelers

Since it has been possible to crystallize osmium, it can be used in jewelry, art and watches. Since the beginning of the fall of diamond prices and after the first ten years of the market launch of crystalline osmium, a large number of illustrious companies have jumped on board and are producing individual pieces and series with this fantastic material.

In more recent times, jewelers no longer only create jewelry with osmium, but are increasingly taking the path of replacing the diamond carpet so that, in addition to the design, the intrinsic value of the material used is retained and the piece of jewelry becomes a tangible asset because osmium has been used.

In view of the problems encountered in the past when using a pavé for the finest shapes or softly curved surfaces, crystalline osmium has now a special status on the processing market.

Crystalline osmium has a flat underside so that it is easy to set and it can also be easily removed from jewelry without being damaged and without losing its status as an investment metal.

In addition, the proof of authenticity of the non-falsifiable metal is transferred directly to the entire piece of jewelry through the X-code in the osmium world database. This creates a level of security against fraud that has never before been seen on the jewelry market.

As a jeweler, goldsmith or manufacturer, this is your chance to become a part of this new billion-dollar market. We, the Osmium Institute, look forward to hearing from you and will be at your side.

There are many reasons to work with osmium:

1) Highest compression modulus of all materials

2) Highest value density of all precious metals

3) Perfect processing as Osmavé (osmium "diamond" carpet)

4) Absolutely unfalsifiable

5) Highest abrasion resistance of all materials

Let yourself be impressed and enchanted by the most fantastic metal of all time.

Crystalline osmium as a semi-finished product

The raw materials used to make osmium jewelry are so-called osmium discs with a diameter of 18 mm to 95 mm and rectangular bars in many sizes. All structures are flat and have a layer thickness of just under one mm.

Crystalline osmium is cut from discs and bars into various shapes to create inlays that can be set directly into jewelry, just like a gem stone.

Classic standard shapes are osmium "diamonds" in round form, four-pointed stars, triangles and squares that can be fitted very easily into jewelry.

Special shapes of crystalline osmium are cut using the wire-erosion process. Any shape can hereby be created in individual production or small series. Please use the inlay wizard for this purpose. In addition to the material and its sparkle, it also takes into account offcut, working times, machine times and geometric components for the cut.

The assistant for calculating such work is operated by the "Osmium-Institut zur Inverkehrbringung und Zertifizierung von Osmium GmbH" and is provided on this website.

Jewelry making

Crystalline osmium is always used when jewelry or art is meant to be perceptible in sunlight at a particularly long distance due to its sparkle. The grown surfaces are far flatter than those of cut stones and they do not influence the light density and direction of propagation, so that the light intensity is not reduced by refraction or scattering. Perceptibility increases subjectively by a factor of five. Large surfaces of crystalline osmium with a sparke of 4 or 5 can be seen with the naked eye at distances of up to 30 meters due to their spectacular sparkle in sunlight, which no diamond in the world can do.

In jewelry production and processing, the rarest metal in the world is nevertheless treated like a gem stone. However, it can not only be set, but also soldered, clamped, laser spot-welded or glued in accordance with the processing guidelines.

In combination with platinum, palladium, gold, silver, bronze, brass, porcelain and enamel and in combination with differently colored gemstones, osmium harmonizes particularly well with its blue-white luster and its impressive reflectivity in sunlight.

To produce jewelry, so-called semi-finished products are cut into inlay shapes from the tangible asset market. These semi-finished products are bars and discs and can be purchased on the private investment market via www.osmium-marketplace.com or directly via www.osmium.com. Finalized cuts are pre-calculated and ordered via the inlay wizard.

As crystalline osmium can reach different layer thicknesses and crystallization heights, it is generally sold by weight. Cut shapes are subject to production surcharges.

Technology and processing

Osmium can be processed, laser spot-welded and soldered up to a temperature of 400 °C.

To prevent the formation of osmium tetroxide, the processing guidelines must be strictly adhered to. Despite the care that must be taken, processing is many times easier than setting the 3D structures of gemstones, as osmium is always set in a flat shape.

In most cases, osmium is set, clamped or glued. The aim is to be able to remove the intrinsically very valuable material from the jewelry if wished for.

To work with crystalline osmium, please contact the Osmium Institute in your country and request the processing guidelines. The process of onbaording to become a specialist retailer is also very simple.

This not only gives you as a jeweler the opportunity to process the spectacular "next generation metal", but it also allows you to sell crystalline osmium as a wholesale partner to tangible investors. This lucrative business for you and your customers is supported with goods on loan and on consignment. Please enquire about these services at the Institute.

Custom-made

Osmium can now be cut into almost any conceivable shape. However, to ensure that the crystalline osmium is not damaged, minimum web widths must be observed for each design.

The erosion wire used to cut the osmium is approximately the diameter of a single hair. This means that particularly fine shapes are possible and almost any design can be realized.

To produce custom-made products and special shapes and to calculate the prices of the inlays in advance, please use the inlay wizard, which you have free access to as a specialist dealer. You are also welcome to set up employee accounts so that your staff can process orders and preliminary inquiries directly and without delay.

All your data is stored in the assistant database and saved for you so that you can create a design database whose special pieces you can easily reorder with just a few mouse clicks.
